1. Spray freshly washed roots with volumizing spray. I like Bumble %26amp; Bumble or you can try Aveda volumizing tonic .

2. If hair is naturally course or curly, work a straightening balm through hair. Here's a great list of balms .

3. Blow dry hair straight, starting at the roots to get extra volume. Hair must be completely dry for this look to work. Blow cold air at the roots to add volume (cold air locks in a style)

4. Separate hair into 3 sections, securing with a ponytail holder. (It's easier this way to curl your way through each section).

5. To curl hair, use a 1-inch barrel curling iron. Starting with one section, take a 1-inch portion of hair and wrap hair around the barrel of the curling iron. (Wrapping hair is different from the traditional curling method. You don't want to 'clip' hair into the barrel. Wrapping allows you to curl all the way to the root). When you're curling, make sure to leave ends loose.

Release the curl after about 5-10 seconds (hold longer if you want a tighter curl). You should have a corkscrew curl.

6. Roll %26amp; pin curl to your scalp.

7. Alternate the direction of the curl as you work your way through the section. (Wrap hair under once, then over the next time). Alternating directions makes curls look more natural.

8. Once pinned curls have cooled, release them.

9. Remove nozzle from dryer %26amp; gently loosen waves with cool air. You can also separate curls with your fingers, just make sure not to brush them out.

10. To add shine, spritz a hair serum . Or forego hair serum %26amp; spritz with saltwater spray. I like John Frieda Beach Blonde Ocean Waves Sea spray.

11. Set with a spritz of hairspray. Just don't overdue it, you don't want to new waves to be 'crunchy.'

I'm not a licensed hairstylist, but you can try this if you like: large barrel curling iron, curling away from the face, finger styling the curls. You could use hair sheen products or a curl-friendly spray like Frizz-Ease Dream Curls curl perfecter spray by John Frieda.

note: Her hair may have been cut in layers as well.

It looks to me as she has hair extensions. But the curls are done either using a large curling iron in a blow and curl style. Or blown out roller set.

big barrelled curling iron for the ends, then flip your head over and spay the roots really good to make it kinda poofy like that. back comb the underlayers while the spray sets if you need to.

I'm a stylist of 20+ years.

First of all, you got to have a cut that will work with the style. Take the picture to your stylist and have her cut your hair to the style in the picture. Ask for some styling tips and listen to her and ask any questions you have. Have it styled by her as she explains whats she is doing. Leave her a great tip. At least 15 percent for all the help if you really love it !

My tip. If you already have the cut your layers are about 8 inches in the crown and it is angled around the face. Use a 2" curling iron after drying with volumnizer scrunching as you go with your fingers over the ends to keep those from frizzing and drying and to incorporate as much curl as possible. Curl away from face.

If you have a bit of your own natural curl its a cinch. Pin random sections up with clips loosely to the roots from the mid section of your head down. allow to dry almost the whole way. Remove clips scrunch and dry, and use large 2" curling iron on the very ends. Be sure and use a light gel or spray gel before clipping up. And practice practice practice....it gets easier over time.
